    Alfred Dunhill MK1 Half Cap Broadboy Petrol Lighter Circa 1936
    For your consideration is this very attractive & rare , highly collectible and well sought vintage art deco engine turned Art Deco Period Alfred Dunhill MK1 Half Cap "Broadboy" petrol wick type lighter. This is the standard sized half cap petrol pocket lighter. The side edge has a slide panel where you re-flint and store an extra flint. This tall size London England made lighter features a wonderful vertical line design pattern. The classic design is quite nice and is an attractive version. The underside features an articulated flint screw which is hinged and easy to use as no screwdriver is needed. This type of fill screw was first used by Cartier of Paris in the late 1920's. The lighter is marked on the underside made in England with patent number embossed on the bottom encircling the fill cap. The top or upper front edge of snuffer is marked Dunhill in a unique font. This "Broadboy" model lighter was first designed in 1936 by Wise and Greenwood of London with this half cap design and unusual slide door flinting system. The Half Cap “Broadboy" lighter is an exceptional example of an antique Alfred Dunhill lighter. This Unique collectors item has a superb feel in hand and looks and performs like no other Dunhill Lighter. Measurements are approximately 2-1/4" tall x 1-1/4" across and is in very good used condition it produces a strong spark both the slide edge flint door and fuel screw have been oiled and slide and twist open however you will want to use a drop of oil when opened ! This lighter is approaching a century old thus age related wear is to be expected - item is as pictured and sells as is as per age and usage. The Half Cap "Broadboy" lighters come in a few sizes and designs and are fun to collect if you are fortunate enough to come across the other varieties as all,are highly collectible and highly sought out lighters !     Description : The standard Broadboy was introduced around 1936.
    This Dunhill lighter is silver plated and works ofcourse with petrol. It has a half cap, (full caps also open the front of the lighter, the cap is extends to the front), making it a MK1. Small thumb wheel and correct filling screw.
    A very nice feature of this lighter is the concealled flint chamber. An actual part of the back side slides away to reveal the flint screw.
