Offered for sale is a this rare and highly sought after 1930's silver plated engine turned barley corn pattern art deco swiss made Alfred Dunhill "Savory" pocket petrol wick type lighter. The silver plated lighter body features a barley engine turned body design and small roller with swivel flint system. the flint holder swivels out to change the flint and sparks nicely. This lighter is a standard "Savory" size Dunhill as this model came in numerous sizes. the "Savory or Handy as called in London" Dunhill was invented in 1935 by Leon Bolle of Switzerland who also invented the Dunhill watch lighter. The Dunhill was manufactured by La Nationale of Switzerland who were luxury watch makers. La Nationale manufactured all the vintage Swiss Dunhill lighters and were one of Alfred Dunhill’s most important high end workshops. Swiss La Nationale Dunhills are considered the finest quality of all the Dunhill workshops. The lighter is marked Alfred Dunhill Savory brevette sgdg paris fab Swiss on the underside. There is a french hallmark on fuel screw. I have shown a copy of the Dunhill lighter book featuring the Savory Handy same along with a 1938 advertisement and the bolle patent. The Dunhill lighter measures about 2"tall x 1-3/8" wide and is in good to very good used condition.
