    Description

Size: A little less than 5/8 inch
    Material: Sterling silver
This medal features St Luke with his symbol, the ox. He's holding a quill and paper to symbolize his writing the books of Luke and Acts in the Bible. The original of this medal is from France so in the inscription Luke is spelled the French way, "Luc". The entire inscription translates as "St Luke Pray for Us". The reverse has the inscription: "St Luc de Passa P.O." (St Luke of Passa Pray for Us) Passa is a department in the French Pyrenees near Spain.
St Luke was the writer of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. It is believed that he was born a gentile and that he converted to Christianity. He was a faithful companion to St Paul and accompanied him on several of his missionary journeys. He stayed faithfully with Paul even after Paul's imprisonment in Rome. We know he was a doctor because Paul refers to him as "our dear and glorious physician". Tradition holds that he was also a painter and that the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a copy of a painting he did of the Madonna and child.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
