This lovely oval medal of St Matthew is originally from France and shows St Matthew holding a tax scroll. Prior to being called by Jesus to be one of his apostles, Matthew was a Roman tax collector. The French inscription reads “Saint Mathiew Priez Pour Nous” which means “Saint Matthew Pray For Us.”
The reverse side shows the St Matthew Church in Lorgies, France which is located in the north western part of France. The French inscription says Parish of Saint Matthew Lorgies.
